Day 2

 2nd Session

- 30 to 60 mins Encylopedia of Chess Combinations (Blockade - Medium)

- 30 mins Karpov – My Best Games

- 30 mins Shereshevsky – Endgame Strategy

Probably the best session I've had after a very long time (maybe coz I didn't have to play a game :-):) )

Everything just flowed well, i used 30 mins for each, and the 2 readings were awesome

I had the pleasure to go through a game by Karpov, and an endgame by Capablanca.

Awesome stuff! I'd do this 2 sessions hours and hours without getting bored.

Score (2/3)

- I was more settled. Solved the Qs just with the book (I'll analyze on my free time other variations with the PGN

- For exercises without clear solutions, come up with more plans & candidate moves

- I used a board to go through the moves and comments. In my free time, I'll set up the optional variations and try to calculate them

- Endgames are perfect coz you can just check everything / all variations without losing track

What's interesting?

 1st Session

  • Nice calculations! The book has really beautiful puzzles. I'm still trying to find the blockade though :-)
2nd Session

  • Great meeting Karpov! Certainly one of the best
  • Standard Yugoslav attack in the Dragon. Interesting how its so standard / main line. I can replay the whole opening from the top of my head, and the middlegame with a board, of course without any reference.
  • Interesting battle with opposite side castling. Resembles the battle in the Unleashed Flexible Dragon (always a pleasure!)
  • Karpov is a beast! game dint even go to the endgame

3rd  Session

  • Endgames are always my favourite studies
  • The book is by Shereshevsky but I got to meet the one and only Capablanca
  • Such a swift EG technician. Lessons learned from him
    • Do not hurry!
    • He wasn't so interested with variations, but rather the plans
    • He advanced pawns after his pieces occupied the best squares
